Second network meeting in Neuendorf im Sande, Brandenburg

On May 21, colleagues from the network visited Neuendorf im Sande, the only former Hachshara site in Germany with preserved historic buildings. Since 2018, the association Geschichte hat Zukunft - Neuendorf im Sande e.V. has been working to document the history of the estate and make it visible and accessible to the public.

This event was organized with the association Geschichte hat Zukunft, the Netzwerk Zeitgeschichte and the Recherche- und Informationsstellen Antisemitismus (RIAS).

The event began with an introduction to the estate, the area and the history of the Hachshara site. We also had a discussion with Ines Chavah Stenger, the daughter of Horst Stenger, who had been trained in Neuendorf im Sande. She and her husband Ilei Zavadsky told the stories of their families, including how the trauma is passed on to the second and third generations.

Afterwards RIAS gave an introduction to current perspectives on antisemitism in the past and present. Educational materials for work in schools and out-of-school contexts were also presented. This was followed by inspiring and moving discussions.
